Congratulations to everyone at CAOS as they have been invited by the Big Lottery fund to submit an application to the next round of funding. Moving on from this research and the great feedback from the Up Your Street event they are hoping to employ some permanant staff to really get the project off the ground.

The Event!

Here's just a small taster of what was happening on Saturday in the Clyde Shopping Centre.

Welcome to the new beautiful and colourful Clydebank with arms, legs, smiles, polka dots, glitter, flowers and lots of imagination! This is the Clydebank that local people built in our model shop on Saturday with lots of excitement and mess.

Hopes for the future - an exhibition about local people's hopes and dreams, on the day people also added their own.

Shoppers stop to read local writers' creative writing and poetry on the empty shops

Up Your Street got off to a crowd stopping start with the help of Celtic Spirit

Y Sort It?

We spent Thursday night with Y Sort It's Dalmuir Youth Action Group looking at what they thought of their area and what they wanted for their futures. Their work, including a film and drawings will be on display at 'Up Your Street' next weekend, so if you want to see what they think come and check it out.

Up Your Street - Community Arts Event

On the 14th June CAOS will be taking over the empty shops of Clydebank Shopping Centre. We've got a whole host of things in store including drumming, dance, films, music, poetry reading, exhibitions, photography, creative writing, making.

So come along and have a look, make a film, build a mini building, watch some performances, make a film, try some street dance and lots more!

We'll be in empty shops, an InShop unit and on the third floor of the Coop so look out for us between 10-5pm!

Clydebank's Got Talent!!

We are organising an event to celebrate community arts and to show the people of Clydebank what it's all about and to get them involved. As the shopping centre is such a central part of Clydebank we felt that it would be appropriate to hold the event there. We recently did a small piece of research in the lower section of the shopping centre asking people what they would like the event to be and we had over 200 people stop and talk to us within a space of 4hours. Therefore we're confident about the public's interest in such an event. The event will take place in a number of empty shop units in Clydebank shopping centre on 14th June.

We are looking for existing groups or individuals that would like to participate and show some of their work. That might be art works, photographs, textiles, sculpture, knitting, a dance piece, stand up comedy, a drama piece, music or singing. We're open for anything. We're also looking for films to display which have been made by local people and pieces of creative writing to print on shop fronts.

Volunteers and Board Workshop

Last night we gathered together a group of CAOS volunteers and board members to pick their brains about the future of CAOS and what's important to them. They're a dedicated bunch and their tea and cakes were definately well earned.

Yesterday we were out in Clydebank shopping centre asking the public what activities they'd like to try and also which event ideas they thought were good. Green = go for it, Orange = no thankyou!

Everyone was very nosey about what we were up to and quickly got into it. As you can see we had a great response! Thanks to everyone who contributed.

We're going to be in the lower section of Clydebank shopping centre on Tuesday 13th May from 10am ready to get the public's votes on events they'd like to see in Clydebank this summer and activities they'd like to try. Please do come along and see us and give us you're opinion!

Craft Daft!

Friday 25th April

We had our first visitor today, Isa, who came in to have a chat about what's happening in the area, what's changed during her lifetime and how she's been helping out with CAOS's holiday clubs for children. If you'd like to come and have a chat with us face to face we'll be posting up some times when you can catch us soon.

We've also put up a map in Abbotsford Church foyer for you to mark on all the places you spend time, be it because you have to or because you like to. If you get a chance do add you stickers to it!

Out and About in Whitecrook

Friday 18th April

Today we thought it was about time to get out and see Whitecrook for ourselves. Local resident, Bobby kindly gave us a guided tour to lay out the bsoundaries of old and new Whitecrook before we went off to explore. What we found was a mixed area of old vs new, residential vs industry, densely populated vs wasteland.

Spring Break Fun

CAOS' spring break programme has been in full swing this holiday for primary children from all over Clydebank. Tonight we joined in and got the kids thinking about the area where they live, what they like and dislike and what they like doing in their free time. They drew us some maps and then made video diaries to explain. Here's a few pictures from the results:

-how CAOS can fit in and encourage people to take part in community arts.

Community Arts doesn't mean that you need to be able to draw or become the next Picasso - it's all about having fun, taking part and discovering that everyone's got a creative side!
